Kerala government mulls setting up rubber factory

rubber-factoryThe government of Kerala in India will set up an expert committee to conduct a feasibility study on the establishment of a rubber factory under the “public-private partnership”(PPP) model with an objective to safe guard the interest of rubber growers in the state by ensuring better price for natural rubber.

A decision in this regard was taken at a high level meeting chaired by chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, according to an official release.

It was envisaged to have the company on the similar lines of ‘Cochin International Airport Ltdthat manages the Kochi International Airport and is considered as a successful PPP venture in the state.

The committee will also study the possibility of forming cooperatives of rubber growers in the lines of AMUL.

Chief secretary K. M. Abraham has been entrusted with the constitution of the committee by roping in experts.
