Continental’s radial tyres driving China’s SlideWheel

Continental’s ContiRV20 industrial pneumatic tyres are moving the world’s first and only rotating water slide at the Chimelong Water Park in Guangzhou, China. The 140m-long adventure SlideWheel lends pendulum rotations over a 250m stretch and requires tyres at a diameter of 29-30in and a weight of almost 37kg (82lbs) to power the combined slide and Ferris wheel attraction.

A perfect selection, the ContiRV20 is a robust radial tyre for use in difficult and demanding operating conditions. A very resistant tread compound and closed shoulders ensure an exceptional service life, on top of efficient power transmission and outstanding grip and traction properties, even on wet, slippery surfaces.

Stephan Spiller, CTO at Wiegand Maelzer in Starnberg, Bavaria, who managed the development and construction of the SlideWheel, said it was crucial to find a drive that runs reliably in the wet conditions of the Chinese water park: “We opted for the ContiRV20 due to its good performance in wet conditions. In the first season, the tyres won over not only us and the operators at Chimelong, but also half a million enthusiastic visitors.”
