Continental optimises urban tyres for smoother e-mobility

Electric bus tyres need combined grip, robustness, and extensive load-carrying capacity to overcome the high vehicle weight and responding torque delivery.

To address the need, premium tyre manufacturer Continental has released the Conti Urban HA3 315/60 R22.5 154/148J (156/150F) tyres for safe electric passenger service. These new all-axle tyres feature superb grip and a load-carrying capacity of eight tonnes per axle, 0.5 tonnes above the standard for this tyre diameter.

The Conti Urban HA3 has an increased load index due to its high wire density and thick, robust casing. It further features a sturdy and durable tread with a high proportion of natural rubber, for increased resistance to minor abrasions and full utilisation of the tyre’s mileage potential over its long service life.

The special tyre contour layout adds endurance and even wear, and its wide tread width ensures excellent cornering stability and handling for maximum safety in urban traffic. While high-density interlocking sipes provide optimum grip and lane holding, even in extremely wet conditions, the sipes are also staggered to reduce noise for increased comfort. Reinforced sidewalls ensure that the Conti Urban HA3 reliably withstands frequent curbstone contact – the Conti Urban HA3 is well-suited for year-round use in many European regions, attested by the Three Peak Mountain Snowflake.

Lutz Stäbner, Head of Product Management for Continental’s truck/bus tyres in Europe, Middle East, and Africa has remarked: “The Conti Urban HA3 optimised for electric buses brings to fruition the valuable experiences from recent collaborations with commercial vehicle manufacturers and municipal bus companies – the new tyres provide a safe, comfortable, and cost-effective solution for e-mobility in challenging stop-and-go traffic.”
