China, Sri Lanka in talks for rubber based FTZ

Chinas-plans-to-establish-aThe Vice Governor of China’s Hainan province, Shen Danyang and Minister of Plantation Industries Navin Dissanayake in Colombo have recently discussed China’s plans to establish a  rubber based Free Trade Zone (FTZ) in Sri Lanka. Likewise present were officials of the Chinese Embassy in Colombo, as well as those from the Plantation Industries Ministry, reports said. The FTZ, which will be put up with Chinese Government and the Chinese State Council, is expected to promote the rubber industry in Sri Lanka and also boost foreign exchange earnings. The project is reportedly still subject for cabinet approval.
