Throughout March, the Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA) will offer free tyre repair wall charts and handouts to tyre dealers and auto service locations across the US.

RMA consumer research shows that many US motorists who have had a tyre puncture do not know how to identify an improper tyre repair, the association said. The free materials will help tyre dealers and auto repair shops to educate consumers about proper tyre repair, it said.

According to the RMA’s statistics, about 30% of motorists who have had a puncture don’t know that a tyre must be removed from the rim before it can be repaired properly, and more than 60% trust auto technicians to repair tyres properly.

“Giving automotive service providers access to tyre industry repair guidelines is the first step to ensuring tyre repairs are done correctly,” said Dan Zielinski, RMA Senior Vice President. “This information is important to prevent improper repairs from endangering motorist safety.”

The free RMA information includes the association’s puncture repair wall chart, in print or electronic form; a printed handout that can be used to inform motorists about RMA repair standards; and other downloadable materials. The materials may be found on the RMA’s website at www.rma.org.
