Additional piling works underway at Mah Sing’s glove factory

Malaysian property developer and plastic products manufacturer Mah Sing Group Bhd. (Mah Sing) has begun additional piling works to accommodate 12 units of new, high-speed glove dipping machines at its 287,500 sq.-ft. glove manufacturing factory in Kapar, Klang (West Malaysia). The works are expected to be completed by November this year, followed by installation of the machinery.

The 12 production lines, under its Phase I operations, have a maximum production capacity of up to 3.68 billion pieces of gloves per annum – the production lines are expected to begin operating gradually from April 2021 onwards.

Mah Sing is also targeting a Phase II expansion plan, which includes exercising the option to take up the other portion of the Kapar and accommodating another 12 new production lines. However, the Phase II expansion is expected to happen when demand outstrips supply for Phase I.

“At this juncture, Mah Sing (Healthcare) has secured letters of intent from several prospective customers and the orders have already exceeded the estimated maximum capacity for both phases,” the company said.

Primarily focused on the plastic business, Mah Sing’s ambitious venture into the glove manufacturing came about due to high demand during the COVID-19 pandemic. Mah Sing expects to leverage its expertise and nearly 40 years of know-how in plastics to settle into the segment, and added thatthe new glove businessfurther strengthensthe company’s manufacturing division.
